The above is Jonathan Lambert, my great grandfather. The picture was taken at the time of the Burn's Pit Disaster in 1909. 168 men and boys lost their lives that day. Jonathan's son James was one of them
My website is about the former Urban District Council of Stanley, including the areas of Annfield Plain, Craghead, Dipton,Tanfield, Causey, South Moor and the District of Stanley, etc On occasions I go out of these boundaries to show where the local people worked and played.
It covers all aspects of life, work, school, religion, sport, and general life. It also includes stories of local history, poetry by local poets, photos as it was, and more. The website will be regularly changed to keep it interesting.
